Vanessa Daou :: Slow To Burn

Vanessa Daou’s 1996 released sophomore album ‘Slow To Burn’ was a searing homage to influential female artisans like Billie Holiday, Gertrude Stein and Frida Kahlo, whose lives exemplified complete liberation, artistic or otherwise.

The meditative 11-track set radiated with creamy electronic textures and impeccable, jazz-edged electronic/organic arrangements (incorporating blues, gospel, R&B, Latin, dance and downtempo electronica) creating the perfect sonic backdrop for Vanessa's smoky windswept vocals and poignant visceral lyrics, which unveil themes of love, loss, longing, despair, fragility, seduction and empowerment. The result is a supple collection of sensuous and sublime late night vignettes that draws listeners into their hazy embrace while hitting them with subtle jolts of electricity that illuminate its many dark corners and shadows. Highlights include the #1 chart-topping Billboard Hot Dance Club Play single "Two To Tango", "How Do You Feel", "Waiting For The Sun To Rise" and "Don’t Explain".

This Expanded Deluxe Edition assembles the remastered original album alongside eight additional archival remixes from the period by Peter Daou and Tony Edwards (aka Lotus), Mood II Swing (aka Lem Springsteen and John Ciafone) and Danny Tenaglia, including the long out-of-print “Two To Tango (Lotus Mix)”, the Mood II Swing and Peter Daou-produced "Quick Burn" mixes of "How Do You Feel", and Tenaglia's seminal epic dancefloor workouts "Two To Tango (Valley Of The Daou Mix)" and "Two To Tango (Twilo Mix)".
