The world was introduced to the singularly bold statement of 'Zipless' in 1994. An ambitious collaboration between Vanessa, her then-husband and musical partner Peter Daou, and pioneering feminist/poet/novelist Erica Jong, the ten-track selection of songs/spoken word pieces derived its name from Jong’s best-selling novel 'Fear of Flying', which became an immediate sensation upon publication in 1973 (selling over 23 million copies worldwide).
Hailed as a landmark debut and breathtaking tour-de-force, 'Zipless' was an innovative hybrid seamlessly melding velvety jazz, soul, dance, ambient pop and sultry electronica into an intoxicating synthesis that was equally sensuous and sublime. Masterfully crafted from adaptations of selected poems from Erica Jong’s acclaimed anthology 'Becoming Light', the alluring collection of steamy erotica and emotive narratives (about femininity, sexual pleasure, desire and self-awareness) was a daringly unabashed and uninhibited exploration of female sexuality and womanhood.
Vanessa was the ideal muse to breathe new life into Erica’s vivid evocative poems.
