‘Zipless Bootleg Rehearsal Tapes’ is a collection of rare live rehearsal recordings of songs from Vanessa Daou's landmark solo debut ‘Zipless’, her provocative sexually-charged feminist opus based on the works of acclaimed poet/novelist Erica Jong.

Culled from several archival cassette tapes recorded during the summer of 1995, the riveting 15-track set captures Daou in preparation for her upcoming ‘Zipless’ World Tour, where she was the supporting act for Ziggy Marley, Jamiroquai and Gang Starr co-founder Guru’s seminal Jazzmatazz solo project.

Working closely with her then-husband/musical partner Peter Daou (who served as the musical director and main keyboardist), Vanessa assembled a top-notch collective of masterful musicians (including Mike Caro on bass, guitar and djuniba; Madu Dembele on djembe; Doug Oberhamer on trumpet and keys; and Tommy DeVito and Anthony Johnson on drums) to bring her sophisticated poetic/erotic vision to life.

These intimate recordings offer fans a rare glimpse into the raw underpinnings of Daou's innovative and singular sonic brew – a harmonious hybrid of smokey jazz, sultry urban electronica, spacious ambient pop, soul, dance, spoken word and lounge.

Originally issued in 2015 as an exclusive limited edition CD (via Vanessa’s own Daou Records label imprint), the sublime anthology is now available worldwide as a digital release to mark the 25th anniversary of the inimitable electronic jazz-pop chanteuse’s now-iconic solo debut, which yielded her timeless signature classics “Near the Black Forest” and “Sunday Afternoons”, and equally transfixing deep cuts “Becoming a Nun”, “The Long Tunnel of Wanting You”, and “Alcestis on the Poetry Circuit”.
